A little about Katie...

Katie is the founder of the Sacramento Psychotherapy Group. She has been working in the mental health field since 2007 and was licensed with the state of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2015. She completed a Bachelor's degree with Highest Honors in Psychology at UC Santa Barbara and a Master's degree in Social Work, with a specialization in sever and persistent mental health, at San Jose State University. She started her career in San Francisco, focusing on trauma and substance abuse. In 2011 she relocated to Sacramento to specialize in suicide prevention and college counseling as a Staff Counselor at Sacramento State University. After the birth of her 2nd child in 2017, Katie opened a private practice in Midtown, where she works with clients in psychotherapy and acts as a clinical supervisor, employing, training and supporting associate level professionals on their path to licensure.

Her therapeutic style is warm, personable, compassionate, humorous, honest and humble. Katie approaches clients with a collaborative mindset and unconditional positive regard. She works from a "strengths perspective," supporting clients as they recognize and build off of their innumerable, though often unsung strengths.

Katie’s treatment modalities are eclectic, rooted in psychodynamic, trauma informed, cognitive behavioral, cognitive processing, solution-focused, client-centered, and narrative therapies. Katie has additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), mindfulness and meditation instruction, as well as motivational interviewing. Her goal in therapy is to assist clients in effectively creating the change they desire, be it internal shifts or external steps.
